Objectives Methodology Research

Introduction

Due for introduction in 2004, the new digital tachograph will directly affect approximately 7 million drivers and a further 16 million support workers and managers in both the passenger and freight transport sectors
The potential benefits of the development of the digital tachograph will be trans-national and wide-ranging:
  • Safer working conditions for employees
  • A safer, more environmentally friendly road transport sector
  • Enhanced profitability for companies

It is anticipated that, overall, the introduction of the digital tachograph will result in safer and more efficient transport operations - conferring direct benefits upon all citizens in each and every Member State.

Conclusion

Managing the transition from the current tachograph to the new digital tachograph will be a rewarding process for all those responsible for the welfare and security of employees and companies engaged in the passenger and freight transport sectors of the European Union. This research project aims to facilitate the most effective management of the transition and warmly welcomes the involvement of the widest possible number of individuals and organisations from within the European Union.
