Research in 1999 and 2000 revealed a serious lack of awareness
of the digital tachograph amongst potential users. Of those who were aware of
the digital tachograph, a significant number were unclear or had been
misinformed of its purpose and functions. It has been generally accepted this
lack of awareness could lead to the proliferation of a negative attitude toward
the digital tachograph, resulting in a general antipathy towards its
introduction.
The purpose of the research is to a) assess the extent of this
lack of awareness of the digital tachograph and b) to investigate how a
communication and training strategy can be developed from the results, to
facilitate and assist with management of the introduction and implementation
process.
